One Family's Homeschool Schedule: A Day in the Life

If you're a homeschooling parent, you know that every family's schedule is unique. Having a routine can be helpful in keeping my kids on track and maximizing our learning time together. Here's a glimpse into one of our co-op family's homeschool schedule and how they make it work for their family.

We start our day around 9-9:30 and begin with a subject, taking breaks between each subject for some outdoor play or a wiggle break video on YouTube. By midday, most subjects are completed, leaving plenty of time for other activities. On Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, my girls attend Outschool classes, which is a great way for them to learn from other teachers and interact with peers.

During lunchtime, we enjoy an audiobook or podcast, providing a break from screen time and further developing their listening skills. After lunch, when my youngest takes his nap, my girls can choose from a variety of activities, such as drawing, playdough, painting, or building with blocks.

To make sure the day stays on track, we aim to complete all necessary chores by 5pm, giving the kids plenty of time to enjoy their electronics or engage in their personal interests. One of our favorite family activities is reading together around 9pm, which helps create a sense of routine and fosters a love for literature in our children.

There is no one right way to homeschool. Finding a schedule and routine that works for your family may take some trial and error, but being flexible and making time for fun and creativity can lead to a rewarding and successful homeschool experience. Hopefully, this gives you some ideas on how to structure your own day. Happy homeschooling!
