We are so excited to be starting our cottage co-op. Four families with 7 children who will be meeting together once a week to learn together and build relationships at the same time. There are so many benefits to homeschooling as individual families, but some things are just better with friends.
For the first season, we have 4 classes. We start off our morning with social emotional learning, then a unit study of the Harlem Renaissance. Next, we take a break for lunch, followed by gameschooling time and ending the day with science experiments.
Our first meeting was this week and it was worth all the planning that went into it. The kids had a great time and we all learned a lot. We will be working this month to find our rhythm as a group and will make adjustments as we go.
Our morning began with a get-to-know you game. At each turn the children shared a little something about themselves with their friends. We ended this opening session with affirmations.
Next up was the Harlem Renaissance study. We learned about the Great Migration and ended with time with the children writing down what they wonder about this time period. Over the fall season, all of the questions (and many more) will be answered.
Our gameschooling session this month will focus on geography games. We played The Scrambled States of America this week. Next week, we will break up into groups and play two games each.
Our final class is science. This week the students learned all about their fingerprints.
