About
For the Culture is a community-based, secular homeschool cooperative located in San Antonio, TX. Our goal is to cultivate our children’s potential, amplify their voices, and encourage them to exude excellence through academics, inquiry, and the fearless pursuit of their dreams. Our community is rooted in a love of diversity and inclusivity. We are proud to be a culturally centered, LGBTQIA+ supportive, and pro-science community. Our programs are designed with intention, putting the rich and diverse traditions, and histories of Black, Brown, & Indigenous communities at the forefront.
Group Rules
Secular Homeschooling
This is a secular homeschooling co-op. We welcome families from all religious practices (including those who choose not to practice) who intentionally respect others choices. For that reason, we do not discuss religion in terms of curriculum outside of historical contexts. To maintain the safety of this space, we require everyone to be mindful of others feelings and experiences around this subject.
Actively Homeschooling & Participating
The goal of our group is to create connections and support both students and parents. To join, you must be actively homeschooling at least 1 child age 5+. Once you have joined the group, you must attend at least one virtual or in person event every 90 days or you will be removed for inactivity.
Inclusive & Kind
Make sure everyone feels safe. Bullying of any kind isn't allowed, and degrading comments about things like race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity will not be tolerated. We are an LGBQT+ affirming space and expect all of our members to be kind and inclusive. All posts, comments, and discussions in the Culture Homeschool group must be made with the understanding that the experiences and perspectives of Black, Brown, and Indigenous people are at the center of this group.
Centering Black, Brown, and Indigenous Voices
Allies in this space must recognize and acknowledge that Black, Brown, and Indigenous people face unique challenges in homeschooling and in society at large. Any language or behavior that is harmful or offensive to Black, Brown, or Indigenous people will not be tolerated in this group. This includes but is not limited to: racism, microaggressions, cultural appropriation, and tone-policing. By agreeing to this rule, members commit to creating a safe space centers around BIPOC experiences.
Photos at Events
Group events are often documented with pictures. If you do not want your student(s) picture to be taken as part of group activities, it is your responsibility to avoid the camera.
Be respectful of others’ privacy
Being in this group depends on our trust of one another. Some discussions may be sensitive or contain sensitive information, so what’s said in the group should stay in the group.
No sales or spam
Give more than you take in this group. Self-promotion, marketing for your business, services, youtube, etc. and irrelevant links aren't allowed. Please contact an admin if you would like to post about homeschool related services.
RSVP Etiquette
Please RSVP for each event you plan to attend. It is helpful for the host to know how many students/families will be attending. Update your RSVP if your availability changes. Individual hosts work hard to plan events for your students. Consistent no-shows or not following through on your rsvp may result in removal from the group.
